What is the overtime rate in the UAE?

Standard overtime is paid at the basic hourly wage plus 25 percent, so 1.25 times the normal rate. Overtime worked between 10pm and 4am is paid at 1.5 times. Work on a rest day is paid at 1.5 times, or compensated with a day off in lieu.

How is the hourly rate worked out?

This calculator uses the widely applied method: the basic monthly salary divided by 30 to get a daily wage, then divided by 8 working hours to get the hourly wage. Overtime pay is that hourly wage multiplied by the hours and the relevant multiplier.

Is overtime based on basic or gross salary?

Overtime is calculated on the basic wage, not the gross salary that includes housing, transport and other allowances. Enter the basic figure for an accurate result.

How much overtime is allowed?

As a rule, overtime should not exceed two hours in a day unless the work is necessary to prevent substantial loss or a serious accident. Weekly hours including overtime are also limited under the law.
